Answers To FAQs About Using The Library

Where can I plug in my laptop computer?
Computers may be set up wherever there is a free power socket. However, if other readers are disturbed by your use of the computer you will be asked to move to another area.

If you wish to connect your computer to the Library's wired network you will need a cable. Cables are available at the Issue Desks, and will be checked out on your library card in the same way as a book. The Open Access network is available on all ports in the North Block marked with a red sticker and at all available ports on the Open Access desks in the South Block, as well as the two floor panels at the rear of Middlesex Library South. The Open Access network provides access to the internet, but access to e-resources is subject to user status as access is defined as ‘remote’ (off-site).

Wireless internet access is available in both North and South Blocks. In the South Block, wireless is available throughout. Instructions for using the Library wireless network are available online or in printed form on the small table outside the Goldsmiths' room, between the two doors. In the North Block, wireless is available in the Social Sciences area on the 2nd floor. Instructions for use should be on the wall.

Alternatively can connect to the wireless network using the eduroam service if your home institution is a member. You must set this up before coming to the Library as staff are not able to assist with setting up authentication to your home institution.

Use of your personal computer is at your own risk.
