Room Hire
Senate House Library, University of London, has several rooms suitable for hire for events such as committee meetings, seminars, book launches, receptions and location filming. Please be advised that we require a minimum of 48 hours notice for all filming location requests, anything outside this length of notice may not be considered. A full range of catering can be provided, from working lunches to canapé receptions. Meeting room equipment such as flipcharts and IT support for meetings can also be arranged for a small additional fee. Please contact us for further details.

The Goldsmiths' Library Reading Room
PLEASE NOTE: The Goldsmiths' Library Reading Room is closed for essential refurbishment works which will last for upto 18 months, and is therefore unavailable for hire at this time.
The Goldsmiths' Library reading room is fitted with glazed bookcases of English walnut, which line the walls. The ceiling is of South American cypress wood with panels framed in gold. The windows are glazed with hand-made rectangular Norman slabs and at the south end, a stained glass window, depicting the coat of arms of the Goldsmiths' Company, by Erwin Bossanyi. The room is particularly suitable for receptions, book launches and location filming.
The Durning-Lawrence Library
PLEASE NOTE: owing to essential refurbishment works, the Durning Lawrence Library is not currently available for hire.
This room, furnished with the original maple library cabinets of Sir Edwin Durning-Lawrence, recreates the ambience of a private library. The room is particularly suitable for committee meetings, small lectures and receptions, book launches and location filming.
The Dr Seng Tee Lee Centre for Manuscript and Book Studies

This is a purpose-designed location for teaching, research, exhibition and discussion in the heart of Special Collections in Senate House Library. The Centre offers an open galleried area with comfortable seating and offers an informal meeting space. The exhibition cases are used to highlight the collections, complemented by the eye-catching floor covering which features images from the Library's treasures. This space is particularly suitable for informal break-out periods from the adjacent seminar room and is therefore available for hire in a package with the seminar room.
Dimensions: 9 metres by 4 metres
The seminar room has high-specification audio-visual and conference facilities, providing excellent teaching, research, meeting and committee space adjacent to the collections.

Conference Support
What will conference delegates be entitled to?
As a delegate of the conference each member will be entitled to the following services and facilities available through Senate House Library:
- Reference access to all open access collections
- Use of the Stack Fetch and Deposit Services
- Photocopying and printing facilities (chargeable locally)
- Support from experienced staff in the use of information resources and collections
- Use of pcs to access the catalogue, electronic resources and the internet
- Access to our special collections
- Use of the Senate House Library reading rooms
Access will be for the duration of the conference starting on the first day of the conference or the day before. This can be agreed between the conference organiser and the Memberships Supervisor at Senate House Library.
Cost
A high number of conference delegates will fall into our current membership scheme that provides free refence access to the Library. This relates to people who are working within a Higher Education organisation. Theirfore conference organisers will only be charged for delegates who don't fall into this category.
How will the scheme operate?
- The conference organiser would contact Senate House Library with details of the conference (subject area, numbers and details of those attending, dates, etc)
- A list of delegates indicating if they work in Higher Education will need to be provided and library cards will be produced for people to collect on their first visit.
