The HEFCE Review of special funding for research libraries
Terms of reference
(i) To produce a comprehensive analysis of the services currently provided to the Colleges and academic activities of the University of London by Senate House Library and their costs, with particular reference to:
(a) the division of activity between teaching support and research support; and
(b) the mapping of activities and resources between SHL and College and SAS Institute libraries (and others as appropriate) to identify where there is complementarity and where there is duplication.
(ii) To identify activities and resources (and their associated costs) currently within SHL to be supported by Special Funding under the recommendations of the HEFCE Review of Special Funding for Research Libraries.
(iii) To carry out a consultation exercise with the Colleges, academic activities of the University of London and others as appropriate, on all the issues arising under (i) and (ii) above, with particular reference to priorities for collection/subject-based provision and provision to different categories of student.
(iv) To produce an options appraisal and recommendations for the future (including space, financial and service-related consequences), taking into account the models included in the Crewe Review of HEFCE Special Funding for Research Libraries and the recommendations of the HEFCE Review of the School of Advanced Study.
