Congressional Collections (ProQuest® Congressional Research Digital Collection and ProQuest® Congressional Hearings Digital Collection) allows users to consider policy decisions from the last 175 years with a more complete perspective, giving their research more contextual relevance.

The following databases have been recently trialled:

  • Twentieth Century Drama
    Brings together an unparalleled collection of the most important works from the last century from the English-speaking world, featuring plays from noted playwrights as well as lesser known dramatists, the collection includes works by over 300 writers.

  • Accessible Archives Accessible Archives' databases contain the rich, comprehensive material found in leading historic periodicals and books on American history. Eyewitness accounts of historical events, vivid descriptions of daily life, editorial observations, commerce as seen through advertisements, and genealogical records are available in a user-friendly online environment.

  • The Cecil Papers
    The Cecil Papers is a collection of documents, principally from the reigns of Elizabethan I and James I/VI, privately held by the Gascoyne-Cecil family at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire. The Cecil Papers contains nearly 30,000 documents gathered by William Cecil (1521-98), Lord Burghley and his son Robert Cecil (1563-1612), First Earl of Salisbury. Occupying some of the highest offices of state in the land (both men were Secretary of State to Elizabeth I and Robert Cecil also served her successor, James), these two men were at the heart of events during one of the most dynamic periods in Western history.

  • Oxford Handbooks Online: Philosophy, Political Science and Religion
    Cross search the full text of over 2,000 essays from the prestigious Oxford Handbooks in Business & Management, Philosophy, Political Science, and Religion. In-depth, specially-commissioned content by leading scholars and editorially-selected and created links to a range of related online resources.

  • Orlando
    A database of women's writing in the British Isles from the beginnings to the present.

  • UKPressOnline
    History as it happened; 2 million pages of the 20th Century's biggest-selling newspapers, from 1900 to today, all as published on the day they were published and all searchable by name, word or phrase.

  • Philosophy Documentation Centre journals
    Browse through issues of dozens of scholarly journals, series, and conference proceedings in philosophy, religious studies, and classics. Enjoy the research in huge selections of material dating back to 1927. All articles are fulltext searchable and OpenURL ready

  • Philosophy Research Index
    An indexing database providing bibliographic information on articles, books, reviews, dissertations, and other documents in philosophy. Our goal is to build complete bibliographic coverage of a definable portion of the known philosophical literature in several western languages. The scope of the coverage ranges from 1400 to the present, with citations of material in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Latin, and other languages. The database currently contains approximately 650,000 citations,

  • The Illustrated London News Historical Archive 1842-2003
    With its debut in 1842 the Illustrated London News became the world's first illustrated weekly newspaper, sparking a revolution in journalism and news reporting. The publication presented a vivid picture of British and world events - including news of war, disasters, royalty, social affairs, the arts and science. Containing over 260,000 full colour pages, fully searchable and browseable, the ILN Historical Archive 1842-2003 provides users with unprecedented access to the entire run of this unique historical record.

  • Financial Times Historical Archive 1888-2006
    The Financial Times Historical Archive delivers the complete searchable run of the world’s most authoritative daily business newspaper. Every item ever printed in the paper, from 1888-2006, can be searched and browsed article by article and page by page.
  • British Biographical Archive (BBA I and II)
    The British Biographical Archive Online features the biographies of 400,000 individuals from all chapters of British history, ranging from pre-Roman times to 2002.
  • The Romantic Era Redefined
    The Romantic Era Redefined is a searchable collection of works focusing in the period between 1800 and 1830, that will bring academic research libraries a new, genre-redefining electronic collection of Romantic-era literature.
