The collection covers all aspects of Film and Media Studies, particular strengths are:

  • Film theory and criticism books are located in the FILM and MEDIA collection on the 5th floor
  • An example entry on the catalogue would state the location as: FILM & MEDIA South Block 5th floor (3) YXP3 Cah
  • Material related to film and media is also located within the area collections of Latin American Studies and United States Studies
  • The Library increasingly purchases ebook titles available via MyiLibrary which can be accessed via the online catalogue
  • Recent issues of periodicals/journals are located in the North Reading Room (Periodicals Room) on the 4th floor South Block. For more information, see our journals resources page
  • Back issues of periodicals are held in the closed access stacks. These will display the location Stack Service on the catalogue. These can be requested via the online catalogue and collected at the service desk, 4th floor South Block
  • To locate individual titles use the online catalogue
  • Also use the catalogue to search for specific electronic journal titles. Full text services such as JSTOR and Academic Search Complete offer additional titles for which the Library does not have print holdings.

DVD Collection

Over 1000 films and operas are available on DVD, these include films from Europe (including Russia), the US, Latin America and Asia, from early silent cinema to the present day.

The online catalogue can be used to search for DVDs by ‘title’ or by director using the ‘author’ search (’Classic’ version). Alternatively, enter the title or director using ‘Quick Search’ and then refine by format as necessary.

For example, a DVD catalogue entry would read: INFORMATION CENTRE 4th Floor DVD [Amelie].

DVDs are located in the Information Centre (4th floor South Block) and can be viewed on public PCs and private laptops in the library. Click here for the rules and regulations
